Taking part in action sports used to be 16-year-old, Jadon’s favourite pastime. But when he suffered a sudden brain condition in 2016, that love of surfing and mountain biking was taken away from him.
His everyday life changed in an instant when he had a cavernoma in his brain stem, which resulted in total left paralysis that affected his breathing and eating. He was in Starship for three months, and spent five months in children's rehab where he has since had to learn to speak, walk and do everyday activities again.
Taking up photography has allowed him to get back into the sports he loves. His one true wish was to have a photography session with his hero – Red Bull action sports photographer, and Whakatane local, Graeme Murray.
So naturally, Canon, our amazing corporate partner was the obvious company to call on to help make this photography wish come true for Jadon.
The team at Canon generously gifted Jadon a 7D camera and lens so he could head out and about taking photos with his hero.
The duo visited a few locations, including Dodzy Skills Park, the Dual Slalom Track, and took a vehicle up into the forest to find some cool spots and took photographs ofcompetitive bike riders Louis Hamilton and Ashley Bond.
Jadon was thrilled to meet Graeme, learn more about photography from a pro, and take shots of the mountain bikers.
"I just love being able to capture the moment and being able to keep it. I like the creative side of photography as well."
We have no doubt that this is a memory that Jadon will treasure for a lifetime!
